Overview

The Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for the HP p-class BladeSystem is a member of the B-series family of Fibre Channel switches available from HP. It delivers new technology from HP for customers connecting HP BladeSystems to Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SAN). In the recent past, deployments using Fibre Channel based high speeded storage networks connected servers to the network through ports on stand alone switches external to the BladeSystem. With the introduction of the new Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch, IT managers now have the capability to consolidate multiple HP servers, Fibre Channel switches, and Ethernet switches into a single platform for connectivity to the networked infrastructure. This integration of technology results in space and cost savings due to a reduction of physical components, significant simplification of the SAN environment, outstanding performance, and easier deployment.

Features

Integrated Design: The Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch plugs into the back of the HP p-Class BladeSystem chassis freeing up precious rack space. Interconnects between the servers and switch are internal to the BladeSystem eliminating external cabling, sfp’s and reducing associated interconnection costs. Power and cooling resources are shared reducing cost and additional points of failure

4Gb Auto-sensing SAN connectivity: The Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch employs latest high speed technology for storage networking. Trunking of the SAN facing ports and external Brocade or HP StorageWorks B-series switches results in an even higher bandwidth connectivity solution. The external facing ports automatically sense lower bandwidth components for greater flexibility and investment protection (4Gb, 2Gb or 1Gb)

Redundant switches per chassis: The HP p-Class BladeSystem accepts up to two switches per chassis. Dual switches coupled with redundant server connections ensures a highly available solution. Hot code activation allows for firmware updates with no service disruption

Fully compatible with StorageWorks B-series switches and Brocade switches: The Brocade 4Gb SAN switch employs the same technology as HP B-Series and Brocade switches for easier integration and greater investment protection

Broad Range of Management Tools: The Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch leverages Brocade management and monitoring tools. It provides interfaces for other SAN management applications, and it is SMI compliant
