The KEMPINSKI HOTEL SAN LAWRENZ recently completed an extensive refurbishment project. In the course of this major restructuring, Kempinski San Lawrenz did not only think of the luxurious décor and modernisation of its facilities, but also invested in a state-of-the-art information technology solution.

Kempinski’s main focus in this major upgrade was to improve their hospitality service levels rendered to the tourists visiting our sister island of Gozo. As an incentive to this, the Malta Tourism Authority in conjunction with the European Union, assisted Kempinski to finance this major investment through the European Regional Development Funding Scheme. This EU funded scheme is intended to provide assistance to hospitality operators and help them upgrade their product to better their overall service to tourists.

In order for Kempinski to realise their vision, they assigned Megabyte as the prime contractor for the design and integration of their Hotel’s complex IT core facilities and entrusted them for the deployment of a fully fledged Hotel Management Solution. Thanks to Megabyte’s expertise accumulated over several system deployments of this nature, the entire project was successfully completed within the stipulated timeframe withstanding its considerable size and complexity.

As the main business application, Kempinski invested in the world-class Micros-Fidelio Opera Property Management System to manage their operation efficiently and effectively. The MICROS OPERA PMS was also implemented to enhance Kempinski’s long-term vision of establishing and increasing the lifetime value of its guests.

This was achieved through elaborate guest profiling, allowing the resort to become more guest focused and thus practice true Customer Relationship management. The Opera PMS also provides them with the right tools to run their operation at a greater level of productivity, profitability, and reliability than ever before. The application was specifically configured and fine-tuned by Megabyte’s specialists to Kempinski’s requirements, thus making it easier to use and to allow them to obtain fast, accurate, up-to-the-minute information. This, in essence, will enhance the overall guest experience, property management and, of course, aid to optimise revenue management.

Building on the Micros Opera PMS, Kempinski added the MICROS 9700 Hospitality Management System (HMS) to achieve absolute control of its retail operations. Kempinski chose the advanced functionality of MICROS 9700 HMS as the technology foundation for both its food & beverage and retail outlets. Both of these additions elevate the already famous guest experience for which both the Trattoria and L’Ortolan restaurants within the resort are well renown for. The systems extensive reporting capability grants them real-time access to important operational data to improve the overall level of efficiency and ensure unsurpassed guest satisfaction.

As a platform for its IT operations, Kempinski also commissioned to install a cluster of optimised HP Proliant rack-mount servers, equipped with redundant power supply alternatives, cooling and storage facilities to ensure smooth operation even in worst case scenarios like power failures and other critical hardware malfunctions. Kempinski’s prime concern was their dependency on guaranteed system uptime and insisted that their system had to tollerant to a certain level of hardware malfunction without compromising their operation continuity. To counteract this, and for additional peace of mind, Megabyte incorporated HP’s Integrated Lights Out management boards on their Proliant servers to enable total remote management takeover and provide immediate response to any mishaps or malfunctions that may occur. This additional equipment makes the traveling time involved in crossing over to the sister island superfluous, to provide immediate remote assistance should the need arise.
