The
Ramla Bay Resort, located at Marfa Malta, had
just completed a major refurbishment programme
that transformed the resort into an enchanting
location. With a sprawling landscape, the resort
offers a multitude of leisure choices to the
discerning visitor. From peaceful solitude in
the shade of bamboo parasols and Gazebos, to the
relaxing ambience of the new Spa and wellness
centre, to the themed bars, restaurants and
conference rooms, that cater for those who wish
to combine work and play.
As part of this major embellishment project, the
owners and management of the Ramla Bay Resort
decided that their property needed to be run
more efficiently through the better use of
Information Technology. To achieve this
important strategic imperative, the Management
invested in a world-class Micros-Fidelio Opera
Property Management System (PMS), from a
reliable partner, to manage its resort
facilities.
As
MICROS-Fidelio system partners, Megabyte Ltd was
commissioned to supply, implement and support
all the components of a fully integrated Hotel
management system comprising of the OPERA Xpress
PMS, Materials Control stock management system
and the MICROS 9700 Point-of-Sale system
complete with the underlying system
infrastructure.
The system
went live in phases during 2006 and now the
Ramla Bay Resort can leverage the advanced
integrated functionality set of the full service
OPERA PMS. Using OPERA Xpress interfacing
capabilities also enabled the possibility to
manage other third party systems, such as PABX
telephone system, call accounting and door
locking systems. OPERA’s enhanced interfacing
functionality has now permitted Ramla Bay Resort
to deliver truly tailored services for each of
its clients.

product that would be scalable with the growth
of our business as the Ramla Bay Resort requires

Opera Xpress gives us that comfort and is
positioned to address our ever changing needs,
very well” continued Ms. Grech.
To compliment with
Opera Xpress PMS, Ramla Bay Resort also
introduced MICROS 9700 Hotel Management System
(HMS). With MICROS 9700 HMS real-time reporting
solution, Ramla Bay will have visibility of
guest movements throughout the property and will
be able to track food and beverage consumption
trends and business ratios. These added
capabilities, in addition to its seamless
integration with Opera Xpress PMS, made the
MICROS 9700 HMS the natural choice for Ramla’s
point-of-sale system.

integration between MICROS 9700 HMS and MICROS
OPERA Xpress was one of several key benefits for
Ramla," stated Mr. Joe Vella, Operations Manager
at the Ramla Bay Resort. “Due to the high volume
of business we handle, it was also imperative
for us to select a point of sale solution of
such an “Industrial Strength”. We managed to
achieve this by implementing MICROS.”
To complement
the state-of-the-art PMS and POS systems from
MICROS, the management of the Resort also
commissioned Megabyte to design and implement a
robust connectivity infrastructure to cater for
their immediate and future requirements. In view
of the large land area, the network layout had
to be segmented in different remote sites, each
interconnected to the central site via high
speed fibre optic links to maximise performance
and efficiency while eliminating possible system
bottlenecks. The resort’s IT fulcrum is powered
by task dedicated high performance HP servers
specifically configured with full redundancy
feature for maximum uptime and optimum
application performance.
