Malta Freeport Terminals expands IT infrastructure capabilities

Megabyte Ltd. has recently completed a project enhancing the current server and storage infrastructure at Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd.

Megabyte Ltd. designed a solution based on the latest HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage Arrays and VMware virtualisation software. During recent years, the Terminal invested heavily in its IT infrastructure, and today, is one of few local companies with two data centers interconnected with fiber using virtualised technology. As part of the new solution, existing storage arrays were migrated to HP 3PAR arrays with HP 3PAR Peer Persistence at both data centers. The existing virtualised environment was upgraded to a VMware Metro Storage Cluster (VMware vMSC). HP 3PAR Peer Persistence together with vMSC, are allowing the Terminal to configure a high-availability solution between the data centers where switchover and switchback remains transparent to the hosts and applications running on those hosts. This technology is application independent and can be deployed as a solid disaster recovery solution for enterprises.

This project has provided means for Business Continuity which was critical to ensure that the Terminal’s operations never stop. Jesmond Baldacchino, ICT / IS Manager at Malta Freeport Terminals Limited has said of this project, “Technology is the backbone of Malta Freeport Terminals’ operations and the Company prides itself on being in the forefront of technological development. The high investment undertaken recently by the Freeport in two data centres which were ably designed by Megabyte Ltd. are guaranteeing business continuity at the Terminals, which undoubtedly is one of the decisive competitive factors of the Company. Megabyte has provided us with a reliable and outstanding solution which has remarkably boosted Malta Freeport’s main server infrastructure.”
